Man riding electric scooter killed in Salt Lake City crash
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A 41-year-old man was killed in the Fairpark neighborhood of Salt Lake City late Sunday night, April 21, after he was struck by a car while riding an electric scooter.
The Salt Lake City Police Department said Ismael Ontivaros was struck by the car just before 9 p.m. near 800 West and North Temple. Police said a preliminary investigation indicated the car was heading west on North Temple when it struck Ontivaros.
Three injured in officer-involved crash in Draper
First responders with the Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross provided emergency life-saving aid to Ontivaros and transported him to a local hospital with critical injuries. SLCPD confirmed on Monday that Ontivaros died at the hospital.
While the specific cause of the crash remains under investigation, police say impairment may be a factor.
The driver of the car, identified only as a 22-year-old man, remained at the scene. Police said no arrests or citations have been issued or made as of Monday, April 22.
SLCPD said this crash marks the fourth traffic-related death in Salt Lake City in 2024.
