Man who ran from 2013 sexual assault charge in Fairfax County found, brought back from El Salvador

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Police said that a man who was responsible for a sexual assault that took place in Springfield in 2013, then left the country, was in custody on Friday.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said the U.S. Department of Justice helped in the arrest of David Ernesto Cuevas Maldonado who was 27 when officers first arrested him in 2014. FCPD said Cuevas Maldonado was released on bond and fled to El Salvador, which is where he was rearrested.

Cuevas Maldonado is accused of assaulting someone who didn’t know him inside a home in the 7200 block of Commerce St. on Oct. 21, 2013.

Following his arrest in El Salvador, Cuevas Maldonado was extradited to Fairfax County where he was in the adult detention center with no bond.
