Man pleads no contest in 2021 Fruitport homicide

FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 23-year-old has pleaded no contest to a 2021 homicide in Fruitport Township.

On Friday, Kevin Allan Wilson pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and felony firearm for the Dec. 9, 2021, death of 18-year-old Dylan Owens.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 16.

The shooting happened during an early morning confrontation. Owens was found inside a car near South Third Avenue and Park Street, shot repeatedly.

At the time, Fruitport Township police said the shooting stemmed from earlier conflicts between Wilson and Owens, but Owens’ family members said they didn’t know what led to the dispute.

The two had known each other for 12 years, according to his family.
