Mason will serve 5 years in prison as part of his split sentence.

He will serve that sentence concurrently with a two year sentence for second-degree assault as part of another guilty plea. An indictment shows Mason assaulted someone in May 2023 by hitting them with a broken mop handle and biting them.

On May 4, 2022, authorities were called to the area of Monroe Drive, about one block West of Main Street just after 11 p.m.

Logan said Muscle Shoals Police arrested Mason in connection with the stabbing. He was charged with murder, with bond set at $500,000.

Colbert County Coroner Justin Gasque confirmed at the time one person was killed in the stabbing. The Friday following the incident, Chief Logan said the victim, 44-year-old Earnest Lee Jones, died at Helen Keller Hospital.
