Man killed in stabbing at San Leandro Safeway

(KRON) — A man was stabbed and killed at a Safeway in San Leandro on Tuesday, the San Leandro Police Department said.

SLPD responded to the Safeway at 555 Bancroft Ave. at 5:15 p.m. The victim had multiple stab wounds, and he was taken to a hospital where he later died.

A police investigation revealed that the victim got into a physical confrontation with “a member of another group of persons inside the store.” The suspect took out a knife and stabbed the victim.

The suspect fled the scene after the stabbing. They remain at large as of Thursday.

Police declined to provide more information, including the identity of the victim.

The stabbing was the second incident of violence at a Bay Area Safeway this week. On Monday, three people were shot in the parking lot of a Safeway in American Canyon. Two people were arrested in connection to the shooting.
