Man who killed roommate in 2022 found guilty by Escambia Co. jury, awaits sentencing

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — A man who killed his roommate in 2022 was found guilty of her murder on Thursday, according to the Office of State Attorney First Judicial Circuit of Florida.

State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden announced that 62-year-old James Edward Hicks was found guilty by an Escambia County jury of second-degree murder of his roommate, 65-year-old Terri Jo Williams.

This comes after he reportedly staged a scene to make it appear as if Williams had drowned herself in a small garden pond in the front yard. However, the release notes that during a death investigation, it was found that Williams’s cause of death was a homicide.

Following the verdict on Thursday, Circuit Court Judge Linda Nobles revoked Hicks’ bond, and he is set to remain in custody to await sentencing. A sentencing date has not been scheduled at this time.

Hicks faces the possibility of a life sentence for Williams’s murder, according to the release.

This case was prosecuted on behalf of State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madded by Assistant State Attorney Matt Gordon, the release noted.
