Update: Fayetteville man shoots and kills home intruder, second assailant flees

A resident of a neighborhood off Cliffdale and Raefords roads got into a gun battle with two home invaders early Wednesday, killing one and sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, Kyshii Swinson, 22, of the 300 block of Waterdown Drive, was shot and killed about 3:30 a.m. after he and another man burst into the home in the 7700 block of South Sheild Drive.

After receiving a call from someone else in the house, police found an adult male injured inside his home and Swinson dead in the yard, Sgt. Jeremy Glass said. The resident. whose name was not released, was listed in stable condition late Wednesday morning.

The second intruder has yet to be located, police said. Glass said the resident and Swinson were known to each other.

In addition to identifying the second person, investigators are also looking for Swinson's 2020 Kia Rio with N.C. license plate RDJ-5899. Glass said the car was not used in the home invasion, but investigators have been unable to find it.
