Man injured, 2 dogs rescued in Battle Creek house fire

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say one person was taken to the hospital after a house fire in Battle Creek.

The Battle Creek Fire Department said the fire happened around 6:45 a.m. Thursday on Inn Road near the intersection of Cliff Street.

When firefighters arrived, the fire department said heavy smoke was coming from the two-story, single-family home. Firefighters were able to put out the flames.

One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and is listed in stable condition, according to a BCFD news release.

Two dogs were rescued from the house. According to the news release, they were administered oxygen at the scene and then taken to the veterinarian for a check-up.

The cause of the fire is unknown. It remains under investigation.
