Man hid gun in Norfolk convenience store, dropped bag of meth in front of officers

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A felon has pleaded guilty after authorities say he tried to hide a gun in a Norfolk convenience store.

During the arrest, police said 37-year-old Christopher Kevin Sheppard also dropped a bag containing more than a gram of methamphetamine.

Sheppard pleaded guilty Thursday in Norfolk court to charges of possession of a firearm, possessing methamphetamine, and possessing a firearm with a Schedule II drug in the case.

Police say Sheppard was arrested on the afternoon of October 29, 2023, after officers responded to a report of a man with a weapon at the Quick Serve Food Store on Sellger Drive in the Woodbine area near Military Circle.

Sheppard and a witness, who told police they saw Sheppard with a gun, were at the scene. A review of security footage showed Sheppard had hidden a loaded gun in one of the store’s aisles before police arrived.

Judge Everett A. Martin Jr. accepted his plea with no agreement to his sentence. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on June 7.
