Man gets life in prison for stabbing, drowning Florida woman

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The man who stabbed, beat, and drowned 22-year-old Kayla Gloster in a toilet bowl inside her Homestead apartment in 2013 has been sentenced to life in prison, NBC affiliate WTVJ reported.

Robert Holton, who once dated Gloster, stabbed her multiple times because he was jealous of another man who spent time with her, according to prosecutors.

Holton was found guilty of first-degree murder and first-degree arson last Monday and eventually recommended life in prison without the possibility of parole or a death sentence following a penalty phase, WTVJ said.

“There was much more to Robert Holton and his worthiness to life than his actions on that particular occasion,” said Tony Moss, one of the attorneys representing Holton. “Obviously the jury agreed with us and we are very happy about that.”

This was Holton’s third trial after two mistrials, and Gloster’s family said they felt relief now that it was finally over.

“Justice was served,” said Tangela Johnson, Gloster’s mother. “Today was a win. I really didn’t have a preference of what it was either life or death. I’m satisfied the big victory was guilty.”
