Man gets jail for allegedly shooting at family member

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man was sentenced to a year in jail Tuesday after pleading no contest to a felony charge for allegedly firing a shot at a family member last year.

Benny Laws also received two years’ probation after pleading no contest to recklessly firing a gun, according to court records. Two other felony counts were dismissed.

During a family dispute last February, Laws, 40 at the time, pulled a gun and fired at an adult nephew, police said. The nephew wasn’t hit. The shooting occurred in the 4600 block of Black Rock Mountain Court, just east of Hughes Lane.
