Man found guilty of murder in Mill Creek Park homicide

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Kern County jury on Friday convicted a man of murder in what authorities say was a random attack that killed a man near Mill Creek Park in 2018, court records show.

Timon Everidge, 24, faces up to 26 years to life in prison at his June sentencing hearing. The trial lasted one week.

Police said Everidge beat and stabbed 34-year-old Sergio Mendoza in July 2018.

Two others arrested in the assault, Nathaniel Mayfield and Steven Buckner, pleaded no contest in 2020 to felony battery charges. Buckner told police Mendoza was unarmed and chosen at random for the beating, documents said.
