Man found guilty on all charges in 2019 homicide on Morehead Ave

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—A Roanoke jury found a man guilty of all charges in connection to the 2019 homicide of Salonya Evans.

On July 21, 2019, police responded to the 900 block of Morehead Avenue SE on a report that someone had been shot. Responding officers found 24-year-old Evans with a gunshot wound outside of a residence. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, police identified 32-year-old Kai Lansana of Alexandria as a suspect. Lansana, who was in custody in the Frankfort County Regional Jail in Kentucky, was extradited back to Roanoke on Nov. 22, 2022, and charged with First Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Statutory Burglary in connection to the shooting.

On May 24, 2024, Lansana was found guilty on all three charges. He will be sentenced at a later date.
