Man found dead in downtown Macon alleyway Sunday, sheriff deputies said

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office was investigating after a man was found dead in an alley near Poplar and Second streets Sunday morning.

The 59-year-old died from a “severe head wound,” investigators said. Someone called the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center at 11:47 a.m. to report finding the man. Investigators have not said when they think he died.

The victim will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy, according to a press release.

The investigation was in its preliminary stages Sunday and additional information was not yet available, deputies said.
