Man dead after shooting near Fresno schools

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – One person is dead after a shooting that occurred in an apartment complex in Fresno on Thursday less than half a mile away from two Fresno schools, according to the Fresno Police Department.

Police say that at approximately 11:20 a.m. officers responded to an apartment complex close to the intersection of Hamilton Avenue and Chance Avenue in Fresno after a report of a shooting victim. On arrival, officers located a man in his mid-20s suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.

The incident location is less than half a mile from Vang Pao Elementary School and Sequoia Middle School.

Despite life-saving measures, and being transported to Community Regional Medical Center, police say the man was pronounced dead at 11:49 a.m.

According to police, there were some witnesses on the scene and investigators are looking for video surveillance. Police released no information about possible suspects.
