Man charged with DUI after Baton Rouge Police say he ran stop sign, hurt one in wreck
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A man faces multiple charges after police say he ran a stop sign and was driving while drunk.
Jersson Mairena-Montoya, 24, was arrested and charged with vehicular negligent injuring, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, stop signs and yield signs and driver must be licensed.
The Baton Rouge Police Department was called to a traffic incident a little after 10:20 p.m. Saturday, March 23. An officer arrived at 14100 Florida Blvd. and found first responders treating someone for a broken leg. The injured person reportedly told the officer that Mairena-Montoya was driving a Dodge Ram and ran a stop sign, according to the arrest affidavit.
BRPD said it caused a wreck. They confirmed the person with the broken leg was taken to a local hospital.

The responding officer reportedly found Mairena-Montoya in the truck. He said he did not speak English.
The officer could smell alcohol “coming from the defendant’s facial area,” according to the affidavit.
BRPD said Mairena-Montoya would not say that he understood his Miranda rights. He was detained, and contact was made with a DUI officer.
He was taken to a hospital before being booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Sunday, March 24. He remains in jail, and his bond was set at $11,000.
