Man charged after deadly shooting in Highland Heights

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is accused of killing his roommate in Highland Heights Tuesday night.

According to reports, officers responded to the shooting in the 3200 block of Hardin Avenue around 7:45 p.m.

A man, identified as Martavion Carmichael, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say Jaquavion Walker, 19, admitted to shooting his roommate, Carmichael, during an argument between the two of them.

Walker also told police that the altercation started after Carmichael refused to leave the residence. He said Carmichael repeatedly told him that for him to leave, Walker would have to shoot him.

Reports say Walker then shot and killed Carmichael outside the home.

Carmicheal was reportedly unarmed during the shooting.

Jaquavion Walker is charged with second-degree murder. His bond has not been set, but a bond recommendation of $1 million has been submitted.

He is set to appear in court on Thursday morning.
