Man arrested after standoff in Scott County, Virginia

DUFFIELD, Va. (WJHL) — A man was arrested after a standoff in Scott County, Virginia on Tuesday.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office reported that officers responded to a home in the Midway section of the county due to a 911 call. The caller, identified as David Kegley, 51, told deputies someone was at the home to cause him physical harm, a news release stated.

Upon arrival, deputies determined the allegations were false and an emergency custody order (ECO) for a mental health evaluation was obtained.

During that time, Kegley allegedly called 911 four times stating law enforcement was causing harm to him.

Deputies responded back to the home with the ECO order and reportedly found two gunshots through a window. Kegley allegedly refused to come out of the home and barricaded himself inside, the sheriff’s office reported.

After several hours without cooperative communication with officers, Virginia State Police (VSP) put a robot inside the home for a potential view of Kegley, according to the release.

A firearm was found by the robot and a physical team made entry into the home. Kegley reportedly grabbed the robot to move it and at that time, VSP deployed a Taser.

Kegley was then taken into custody.

A substantial amount of damage was found within the home, according to the sheriff’s office.

Kegley was severed the ECO and released by mental health, not meeting the criteria for a temporary detention order, the release stated.
