Man arrested Monday in fatal weekend shooting of Gastonia woman

A man accused of shooting and killing a 19-year-old woman over the weekend was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder, the Gastonia Police Department said.

David V. McDowell, 24, is charged in the shooting death of Zanayah White on Saturday at her home in Gastonia, according to police. Her family said McDowell is White's ex-boyfriend.

Zanayah White was a single mother to her 2-year-old son, Demarion.

Police declined to say where McDowell was arrested.

No further information was released.
