Man arrested for hiding camera in Starbucks restroom that recorded 91 people, including children: SJPD

(KRON) — A San Jose man was arrested on Friday for allegedly planting a hidden camera in a Starbucks restroom that recorded 91 people, including children, according to the San Jose Police Department.

SJPD received a report about the camera at around 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 31. Police responded to the Starbucks, which was located on the 600 block of Coleman Avenue.

The camera was discovered beneath the restroom sink facing the toilet. The San Jose PD Sexual Assault Investigation Unit began a thorough investigation into the incident. Detectives determined that the camera caught over 91 victims using the restroom.

Victims ranged from 4-years-old to 85-years-old, police said. The videos are extremely graphic, according to police, and contain multiple juvenile victims who were fully exposed. The footage investigators obtained was recorded on Jan. 30 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

As the investigation unfolded, detectives identified Louie Juarez Jr., 35, of San Jose as the suspect. Arrest and residential search warrants were obtained for the suspect.

Juarez was located on March 15 by officers with the SJPD Special Operations M.E.R.G.E. Unit and apprehended in San Jose. Officers carrying out the residential search warrant found:

  • Approximately 20 firearms, including an assault rifle

  • An unregistered firearm

  • High capacity magazines

  • Other miscellaneous micro cameras

Juarez was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail. Charges include:

  • Possession of child pornography

  • Installment of a hidden surveillance camera with audio

  • Possession of high-capacity magazines

  • Possession of an assault rifle

  • Possession of an unregistered firearm

KRON4 News reached out to Starbucks and received the following statement:

This is a deeply disturbing incident, and we are grateful for the quick and thorough response from the San Jose Police Department in apprehending the suspect. We cannot overstate the importance of providing a safe environment for our customers and partners (employees). We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement on this matter.
