Man arrested in Edgewater, accused of carjacking pregnant woman’s car
DENVER (KDVR) — A man was arrested on Thursday by Edgewater police in connection to a Tuesday morning carjacking of a pregnant woman’s car, according to the agency.
Roy Acosta, 37, of Denver, was arrested on charges of first-degree motor vehicle theft, vehicular eluding, possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl) and obstructing a peace officer.
The charges stem from an incident Tuesday in the 2600 block of Ingalls Street. The pregnant victim was “forcibly” removed by a man who stole her car. She gave police a statement with suspect information at the time.
On Thursday at about 8:05 a.m., Edgewater police were at an unrelated motor vehicle crash scene in the 2400 block of Sheridan Boulevard, when the carjacking victims approached them. They said they had just seen their car in the area, and the suspect was driving it, according to the Edgewater agency.

Police were able to locate the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled. A pursuit was initiated as Acosta went east into Denver, which continued for several minutes before officers lost sight of the vehicle near 20th Street and Chestnut Place. Officers arrived at the intersection and found that Acosta had crashed into a second vehicle and fled.
Police reported no injuries were sustained in the crash.
The Edgewater Police Department reported that construction workers directed officers to where Acosta was hidden behind a parked vehicle. Officers then arrested Acosta.

According to Edgewater police, Acosta is also facing charges out of Denver, including:
Two counts of aggravated robbery
Failure to appear for a charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute
Failure to appear in court for a charge of possession of a weapon by a previous offender and
Aggravated motor vehicle theft
A court date has not been set.
