Man arrested in DC for fatal shooting in Prince George’s County

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) said a man was charged for his involvement in a fatal shooting of another man.

36-year-old Jamar Welch Sr., of Takoma Park, was charged with shooting and killing 43-year-old Charles Dent of Hyattsville, PGPD said.

The shooting happened on March 23 around 6:45 p.m. in the 1800 block of Metzerott Rd. There, PGPD officers found Dent suffering from a gunshot wound. He died there.

PGPD said a preliminary investigation shows that the two men knew each other and were in an argument before Welch shot Dent.

Welch was taken into custody in Washington, D.C. where he will stay, pending an extradition back to Prince George’s County.

He was charged with first and second degree murder along with other related charges.
