Man arrested, charged with murder in Fort Worth shooting that killed teen in November
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in the death of a teen who was shot in November, according to Fort Worth police jail records.
Fort Worth police arrested Martin Ramirez-Lopez on Thursday and charged him with murder in the death of Luis Carlos Laguna Jr., 19.
The victim, who went by Carlos, was in the driver’s seat of a black truck waiting to leave a parking lot on Northwest 35th Street at around 2 a.m. Nov. 18. A man who was with a group of men and women shot Laguna Jr., police said. He died at a hospital.
Police said there were multiple witnesses to the shooting, including the group the suspect was with.
The victim’s father, Luis Carlos Laguna Sr., told the Star-Telegram in January that his son was leaving a ranch party when a verbal altercation between two groups broke out.
The family says there are several witnesses who haven’t spoken up about the shooting.
“That’s kind of where our frustration lies, is like these kids know that this happened,” said Laguna Sr. “Now, whether or not they meant for it to happen, you know, who knows? But for there to be a group of kids there at the time and for none of them to come forward and say, ‘Look, you know, we’re sorry, it was an accident. This is what happened.’ That’s what frustrates us.”
