Man, woman who prosecutors say conspired to kill Bridgeview man remain detained: judge

CHICAGO — One of the two people prosecutors say was involved in the shooting death of a Bridgeview man last week appeared in court Tuesday morning.

The judge determined both 20-year-old Anthony Calderon and 33-year-old Agnieszka Rydzewski should remain detained throughout court proceedings due to their alleged involvement in the murder of 39-year-old Arturo Cantu Junior.

Prosecutors say the two were having an affair and conspired to kill Junior, who was Rydzewski’s boyfriend. Prosecutors also said that Calderon admitted to the murder and told investigators where to find the gun and other evidence.

According to prosecutors, multiple text messages between Calderon and Rydzewski discussing the plot and plans to live together after the murder were uncovered.

According to court documents, the two at one point texted about getting a third person to kill 39-year-old Cantu. Rydzewski was in court over the weekend where a judge ordered her detained.

Cantu was leaving for work last Wednesday morning when he was shot and killed outside the Bridgeview building where he shared an apartment with Rydzewski.

Four 9MM shell casings were recovered in the parking lot.

The two defendants also texted about Cantu’s location and her plans to change her last name. They worked together at McDonalds. Police were able to track down Calderon after securing video from a nearby business.

Cantu’s mother remembered her son as a loving man who was hardworking on Sunday after his girlfriend was ordered detained.

His family was present in the court hearing Tuesday but declined to speak to reporters.

The two defendants will be back in court in June.
