Man accused of waving gun, threatening crowd in East Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Police arrested a man over the weekend after he allegedly waved a gun and threatened a crowd with it in East Nashville.

According to court documents, officers were sent to the 300 block of Arrington Street Saturday, May 25 after receiving reports about an individual who was threatening a crowd with a firearm.

Witnesses at the scene told officers the suspect pointed a firearm at people, waved it around, and then walked back into his house. Officials said witnesses described the man as wearing all black and he was believed to be under the influence.

After getting witness statements, officers approached the home and began to make “callouts” for those inside to exit. An arrest report states 49-year-old Roy Wilson III answered the door and was detained by officers.

Authorities reported Wilson was wearing all black and a black hat, which matched the description that was provided by witnesses.

Police said they were unable to find a gun on Wilson during a frisk search, but observed that he had slurred speech as well as the odor of an alcoholic beverage.

Officers at scene reportedly spoke to another witness who told them that Wilson walked toward him on his property with a pistol in his hand. After the witness asked him why he had the gun in his hand, Wilson allegedly pointed it at the witness stating, “I’ll kill you and everyone else.”

Wilson then walked around brandishing the gun while a crowd of people stood nearby, said the witness.

Police said “based on the consistent statements made the from victim and witnesses of the incident, officers established probable caused that the defendant [Wilson] was the suspect.”

Wilson was taken into custody and charged with three counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

He remains jailed on a $50,000 bond.
