Man accused of trying to burn down trailer with Molotov cocktail in domestic violence incident

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man is facing multiple criminal charges after he was arrested following an incident involving a Molotov cocktail thrown at a trailer Thursday morning, officials said.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, a man and a woman were still inside the trailer when it caught fire. Portland Fire and Rescue extinguished the flames near the corner of Southeast 162nd Avenue and Southeast Divison Street at 6:30 a.m. Both people made it out of the trailer with no injuries, officials said.

A release from PPB said 33-year-old William Wingo was arrested in suspected connection to the incident later that same morning after police said they found him near a shopping cart with even more Molotov cocktails, described as glass bottles with a “greenish” liquid inside and denim cloth coming out the tip.

Wingo was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and stands accused of two counts of first-degree arson-domestic violence, fourth-degree domestic violence assault, three counts of possessing destructive devices, three counts of manufacturing destructive devices, third-degree criminal mischief-domestic violence and other, unrelated warrants.

Police said Wingo used to live in the trailer and was previously in a relationship with the woman who was inside it. Wingo allegedly assaulted the woman on Wednesday “with a slingshot and lit a blanket on fire.”
