Man accused of pointing gun at an officer held until trial

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Joey White, accused of pointing a gun at an Albuquerque police officer, will be held behind bars until trial.

Attempted riot stopped at Otero County jail

According to a criminal complaint, an APD officer stopped White near Central and Mesilla on May 16. During the interaction a baggie containing drugs fell out of White’s pocket and he took off on foot. During the chase, White allegedly pointed a gun at the officer, which led to the officer firing two shots in his direction. No one was hit by gunfire during the incident.

White was taken into custody nearby and officers found a fully loaded handgun nearby. The state filed for pretrial detention based on White’s criminal history. Judge Jennifer Wernersbach granted the motion and White will be held behind bars until trial. White is facing multiple charges.
