Man accused of DUI, hit-and-run was out on bail in deadly Ridgecrest crash

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and hit-and-run in a crash this week that injured two people was out on bail for another crash in which someone died, court records show.

Daniel Navarette, 39, is now being held without bail after a judge on Thursday determined he’s a danger to the public.

At about 9:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the area of Baker and Sumner streets. They found three motor vehicles and a bicycle were involved in a crash.

Police said Navarette ran a red light, causing the collision, and it’s alleged he was fleeing from a previous crash being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

One person suffered broken ribs and another had soft tissue injuries, an attorney said Thursday.

Navarette had been out on bail in connection to a deadly crash in Ridgecrest. Misdemeanor charges were filed in 2021. Alcohol was not involved in that incident.

Additionally, Navarette faces misdemeanor DUI charges filed after a 2023 arrest, court records show.
