Man accused of Cape Coral shooting caught twice on lam in Miami

It's the second time a man accused in a Cape Coral shooting has been caught on the lam in Miami.

Court records indicate Jorge Delgado-Fonseca, 48, failed to appear May 13 for a trial call.

Lee Circuit Judge Bruce Kyle on May 13 issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Delgado Fonseca, of Venus, Florida, who's charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He failed to appear for a trial call. He was arrested in Miami a week later.

State prosecutors on Dec. 18, 2023, indicated they wouldn't prosecute Delgado-Fonseca on a charge accusing him of improper exhibit of a firearm. Delgado-Fonseca still faces one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Around 2:45 a.m. Nov. 5, 2023, Cape Coral police responded to the 2800 block of Skyline Boulevard in reference to a shooting.

Officers found a victim with a gunshot wound and applied a tourniquet because of the severity of the wound.  The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Cape Coral police issued a warrant for Delgado Fonseca's arrest and Miami-Dade police located him Nov. 16 attempting to flee on a boat. The details around his second capture in Miami-Dade County weren't available Monday evening.

Jail records indicate he was released Jan. 11 on $15,000 bond. His upcoming court date hadn't been set by Monday evening.
