Majority of Pennsylvania mail voters return ballots ahead of Election Day deadline

(WHTM) – Three-quarters of Pennsylvanians who requested a mail ballot for the April 23 primary returned them before the election night deadline.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of State, there were more than 600,000 mail ballots returned before 8 p.m.

While more registered Democrats requested ballots, there was no significant discrepancy in which voters returned their ballots on time. Democrats returned about 76% of their ballots and Republicans returned about 74% of their ballots.

There were nearly 900,000 ballots requested for the primary; approximately 72% of those requests were made by Democrats.

More than 10% of registered Pennsylvania voters had the opportunity to vote by mail in April. According to the Pennsylvania Department of State, there are 8,711,605 registered voters in the state: 3,892,619 registered Democrats, 3,495,378 Republicans, 981,763 voters with no affiliation, and 342,574 registered to a third party.

The last day to register to vote is October 21, 2024, and the last day to request a mail-in or absentee ballot for the November 5 primary is October 29, 2024
