Major New Hampshire highway shut down for hours after truck crash damages overhead sign
A major highway in New Hampshire was shut down for hours on Thursday after a truck crashed and damaged an overhead road sign, officials said.
The truck crashed on the southbound side of the Everett Turnpike in the area of Exit 4 in Nashua before 9 a.m., according to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
All lanes on the southbound side of the highway were closed due to the crash. Those lanes didn’t reopen until shortly before 12:30 p.m., according to Nashua police.
Video from the scene showed a truck hauling a dumpster lodged up against a mangled beam that supports the sign.
“Seek an alternate route,” NHDOT said after the crash. “Northbound, expect delays.”
It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was hurt in the crash.
The crash happened as the powerful nor’easter brought snow, rain, and sleet, causing slick driving conditions across the region.
An investigation is ongoing.
