Macon Resources Incorporation provides more than just license plates

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Have you ever wondered where your license plates come from before they end up on your car? Most state plates are being done in prisons, but not Illinois.

Macon Resources Incorporation in Decatur takes care of everything.

“It’s so exciting. We love it. In fact, we can’t wait for people to see what we do and how we do it,” said President and CEO Amy Bliefnick.

She added that they’ve been handling license plates for forty years and supply about 2.5 million pairs of plates every single year.

Bliefnick added that supplying that many plates every year creates more job openings.

“We employ about 175 individuals throughout the year, and our plates department is about 40 people who work there.”

Now they have a new system allowing them to do everything in house.

“60% of the work is done by people with developmental disabilities,” Bliefnick added.

Roger Pickett is an employee who’s been working for more than two decades. He says he wouldn’t trade his job for the world.

37 live and then and they get the recognition that you get from the people that really help the people out here in the world,” Pickett said.

One thing he loves is that the managers notice the work that the employees put in.

“They like they give out people, you know, awards, how long they’ve been here and stuff,” Pickett added. “So I think that’s pretty cool.”

The Macon Resources Incorporation has many things planned and their next big event will be a field day in their very own specialized disability park.
