With just days until the royal wedding, Marks & Spencer says it'll celebrate the big day by renaming itself to Markle & Spencer.

Although the name change will be in operation for this weekend only, the re-brand will be large scale, spanning M&S’s website, social media accounts and store windows in the eight Royal boroughs. The official unveiling will take place at the brand's Windsor store on 18 May; a traditional town crier will make the announcement, while a ceremonial ribbon cut will be performed by M&S characters Percy & Penny Pig in their wedding best.

The newlyweds are expected to come past the shop after the wedding at St George's Chapel on Saturday.

“As a quintessentially British brand we had to do something special to mark the royal wedding and what better way to welcome Meghan to the family than to ‘marry’ both our names together for the weekend," said Sharry Cramond, M&S marketing director for food & hospitality.

"As a retailer we’ve celebrated 34 royal weddings over our 134-year history, but this is the boldest idea we’ve delivered yet! We wanted to spark a smile from Harry and Meghan on their big day and capture the excitement and celebratory mood of the nation on receiving a real-life Hollywood princess into our royal family!”

Not only will M&S stores in Kensington & Chelsea, Reading, Maidenhead, Camberley, Bracknell, Newbury, Leamington Spa, Tunbridge Wells, Swindon, Kingston Upon Thames, Lewisham, Llandudno and Sutton Coldfield receive a name change, but they will also be given an interiors makeover with the decor forming the colours of the Union Jack, red, white and blue. Markle & Sparkle photo booths will be available for customers to create a memento of the day, while screenings ofd the wedding will air in store.
