Lynchburg police arrest man wanted in Newport Drive malicious wounding investigation

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The Lynchburg Police Department arrested a man in connection to a malicious wounding that occurred on Newport Drive in February 2024.

On Feb. 18, officers were dispatched to the 6200 block of Newport Drive on a report of a fight. LPD arrived to find a woman with non-life-threatening injuries to the head.

Police identified 50-year-old John Sheffery Jr. as the suspect for the charge of malicious wounding, but his location was unknown.

On Thursday, April 25 police say Sheffery Jr. was arrested on outstanding warrants from Lynchburg and Bedford County. He was charged with Malicious Wounding related to the incident on Newport Drive, and Felony Possession of a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance.

Sheffery Jr. is currently held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond.
