DC Entertainment's Lucifer will finally get a proper television airing ahead of its third season.

Until now, fans of the Neil Gaiman-inspired comic book adaptation in the UK have had access to it through Amazon Prime, but there's been no proper telly slot.

However, FOX has now picked up the previous two Lucifer seasons to launch on TV on Thursday, August 31 at 9pm so fans can catch up on all the demonic fun.

"Lucifer is ridiculously entertaining; part supernatural drama, part police procedural, part dark comedy; the series takes everything we think we know about the world's greatest villain and flips it upside down," Fox Networks UK entertainment president Toby Etheridge announced.

"British actor Tom Ellis is having the time of his life playing the Lord of Hell, and so will our viewers with the television premiere of Lucifer on FOX."

The third season is about to premiere on US TV, picking up with the fallen angel Lucifer miraculously recovering his wings… without any explanation as to how it happened.

As he continues to crack the grisliest criminal cases in California, Lucifer will find a new arch-nemesis in Smallville's former Superman actor Tom Welling.

Welling returns to the world of DC Comics to play police lieutenant Marcus Pierce, who becomes a rival for Decker's (Lauren German) affection.

Lucifer returns in the US on Monday, October 2 at 8/7c on Fox, and will eventually air on Amazon Prime in the UK. Watch a trailer below:
