LOWMAN, N.Y. (WETM) — Motorists have been advised to take alternate routes after the Lowman Crossover was shut down late Wednesday.

According to County Legislator Rodney Strange, the Lowman Crossover, taking traffic from Interstate 86 and Lowman to Wellsburg in Chemung County has been closed due to flooding.

The lowlands the road sits on are susceptible to flooding with water going over the roadway when the Chemung River becomes too high.

The order to close the road was given Wednesday evening, April 3, and remains closed on April 4 until the water levels go down.

18 News will provide updates when the crossover is made available again for motorists.
