“I miss my chief. I miss my mentor. I miss my friend,” said Bobby Lillard, retired deputy director of the Danville Fire Department. “I know we shared a lot of moments together. He helped me when I was deputy director. He helped me grow. He pointed me to right directions and things that I needed to do to make me better, to make the department better. And that’s what I truly miss from him. He was a blessing, and that’s all I can say,”

The funeral will be Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. at Second Baptist Church.
