Louisiana man convicted of raping girl gets life in prison

ASSUMPTION PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — A man who was found guilty of first-degree rape was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday.

Seth Savoie, 26, of Bayou L’Ourse was found guilty of rape on June 1, 2023.

According to District Attorney Ricky Babin’s office, detectives started investigating on Aug. 18, 2019, after getting a complaint about the sexual abuse of a 10-year-old girl. Investigators learned that Savoie had been abusing the child since she was 9 years old.

A grand jury formally charged Savoie with first-degree rape on Nov. 6, 2020. He was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.

Officials said a jury reached a guilty verdict in less than an hour of deliberation.

Savoie was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, probation or suspension of sentence on Tuesday, March 26.
