Louisiana House OKs bill proposing castration for men guilty of sex crimes against kids under 13

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A bill that would add castration as punishment for individuals convicted of specific crimes involving kids under the age of 13 has passed in the Louisiana House of Representatives.

State Sen. Regina Barrow (D-LA) pre-filed the bill, SB371, ahead of the start of the 2024 Regular Louisiana Legislative.

SB371 proposes surgical castration for sex offenses when the victim is under the age of 13 at the time of the offense and provides medical evaluations of the offender conducted before treatment.

According to the proposed legislation, an offender who doesn’t appear or declines to undergo the procedure could face charges for failing to obey a court order and may receive a prison sentence ranging from three to five years, with no chance of parole, probation or sentence suspension.
