Louisiana health system Diversity, Equity and Inclusion report shows improvements made

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System released its second Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Impact Report, showing an increase in minority team members and outlining community investments.

Findings from the 2024 FMOLHS Impact Report included workforce diversity, training and development, community engagement and future commitments.

“As healthcare leaders, we recognize the pivotal role we play in shaping a more inclusive and equitable future,” Tina Schaffer, FMOLHS vice president, chief talent strategy and diversity officer, said in a news release.

Schaffer said the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion report is a reflection of the health system’s “dedication to fostering a culture where diversity is celebrated, equity is prioritized, and inclusion is the cornerstone of our success.”

The health system’s first required education training for all team members in 2023 led to 95% of all team members and more than 98% of leaders completing the cultural sensitivity module. According to FMOLHS, education initiatives are being expanded throughout the health system.

The report said 100% of leaders completed the inclusive leadership curriculum and 97% of team members were trained on inclusive patient care.

In fiscal year 2023, FMOLHS invested more than $3.5 million in community benefits through community health improvement services, health professional education, subsidized health services, cash and in-kind contributions and community-building activities, impacting more than 123,000 people, according to the report.
