Looking to add to your vinyl collection? How to celebrate Record Store Day in Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls is celebrating the 17th annual Record Store Day on a high note Saturday.

Typically the third Saturday of every April (and celebrated on Black Friday), National Record Store Day began in 2007 when a group of independent record store owners and employees aspired to show the world the unique and vibrant culture of brick-and-mortar record stores, according to National Day Calendar.

There are over 1,400 independently owned record stores in the U.S. and thousands like them around the world, according to the Record Store Day website.

The first official Record Store Day was held April 19, 2008, and has since flourished by commemorating the art of collecting and appreciating music.

Record Store Day is also widely known and attended for the limited-edition releases made specifically for the occasion, and it’s all first come, first served. Nearly 400 vinyls and CDs will be released this year.

A number of Sioux Falls vinyl shops plan to hold events to celebrate the day. Here's what you need to know if you plan to attend.
