Longview man sentenced to 40 years in prison for murder

GREGG COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – A Longview man will spend the next four decades behind bars after pleading guilty to murder in a Gregg County courtroom on Wednesday.

According to judicial records, 30-year-old Dominique Sheffield was sentenced to 40 years by Judge Alfonso Charles in the 124th District Court.

Back in January 2022, the Longview Police Department was called to a home in the 2200 block of South Twelfth Street. When they arrived, they found two people with multiple gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, 32-year-old Cedric Evers, later died from his injuries. The other victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Sheffield was later taken into custody by the Smith County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated charges.
