But the match, a "sweat-drenched, sneaker-squeaking 5 hour, 53-minute endurance contest," as the AP puts it, would go down as the longest Grand Slam singles final in pro-tennis history. At 1:37 a.m. Monday morning, an exhausted Djokovic emerged the winner.
