Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation to host Drug Take Back Day

Apr. 10—In a collaboration with the Cass County Sheriff's Department, the Logansport Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Logansport Memorial Hospital will be hosting their fourth annual Drug Take Back Day.

On Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., staff from the hospital, the Sheriff's Department, the Police Department and members from the Drug-Free Communities will be located in the circle drive of the hospital campus to take unwanted, unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications, according to a press release.

This service is free and anonymous, and no questions will be asked about what prescription drugs are being dropped off. Most unused or expired prescription medications will be accepted. Participants are also free to leave medications in their original packaging or containers. Personal information on bottles will not be stored in any way and will be destroyed as part of the collection process.

Needles and syringes can also be accepted, along with pet medications. If bringing needles and syringes, put them in a separate marked bag when dropping them off.

Individuals who plan on bringing sharps will be provided a new At Home Sharps container that has been donated by the Cass County Recycling District and the United Way of Cass County.

Liquid medications, inhalers, aerosol cans, mercury thermometers and iodine-containing medications cannot and will not be accepted, the press release says. Logansport Memorial Hospital is not equipped to dispose of these medications safely and properly on this scheduled day.

If these medications need to be disposed off, visit the Drug Enforcement Administration's Take Back Day website at takebackday.dea.gov to find a nearby year-round drug disposal location nearby.
