ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The spring high school sports season is back in full swing.

Horseheads softball, baseball, and boys lacrosse picked up dominant wins on Tuesday, opening the spring sports season. The Horseheads softball team opened up their season with an impressive victory over Binghamton. The Blue Raiders rolled past the Patriots 15-1, with huge days at the plate from Anna Powell, Sophia Bonnell, Caitlin Yearick, and Olivia French. Powell led Horseheads, going 3-3 with an 2 RBI-double. Bonnell (2-3), Yearick (3-4), and French (1-2) all each picked up hits on all, but one of their at bats, and added to the scoring. On the mound, Megan Wolf allowed just 1 hit over 4 innings of work.

In baseball and boys lacrosse, the Blue Raiders both picked up lopsided wins over Binghamton. The boys lacrosse team won 20-2 with multi-goal nights from Brogan Sullivan (4), Braden Woodworth (3), Cody Dale (3), Griffin Stevens (2), Zack Bennett (2), and Brady Kelly (2). On the diamond, Horseheads baseball picked up head coach Jeff Limoncelli’s 400th career win, 17-1.

Aside from the Blue Raiders, Elmira baseball started their season with a victory. The defending Section IV Class AA champs rolled past Johnson City 10-1, on the road. Michael Palmer went 2-3 to lead Elmira, while Logan DeMember added 4 RBI. Bryce Mashanic struck out 8 batters and allowed 1 hit over 5 innings of work.
