Local police, fire departments warn residents of phone scam

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A local police department and a fire station in Ephrata Borough, Lancaster County are warning residents of a reported phone scam.

According to Ephrata Police, a resident reported receiving a phone call from a person claiming to be from “Unit 16” and soliciting money for the police department.

Police are reminding residents that the department does not have solicitors asking for donations.

The Ephrata-based Lincoln Fire Company Station 16 also posted online saying that it “does not and will not solicit donations via telephone.”

Residents who receive one of these phone calls should not provide any financial information.

Police are asking any residents who believe they have been scammed to contact them.
