Elmira, N.Y. (WETM) – Happy Tuesday! We are quiet during the day but showers return late tonight. How long is rain in the forecast for? Details below:

TODAY:

We are tracking a quiet start to the day before showers move in tonight. The rest of this morning will be mainly dry and mostly sunny, with this afternoon seeing cloud cover gradually increasing and gusty winds ahead of the cold front. Dry air should hold off most showers until the evening. However, this combination of dry air and gusty winds raises a concern for areas across New York regarding favorable conditions for fire weather. A special weather statement is in place until 8 pm for Steuben, Schuyler, and Chemung counties to highlight this concern.

TONIGHT:

Scattered showers move in this evening with a round of widely scattered showers passing through overnight. Temperatures will be in the mid-40s for the low. Showers continue to pass through into early tomorrow morning.

REST OF THE WEEK:

After starting the day with isolated showers tomorrow, we gradually dry off as high-pressure returns late tomorrow evening. High pressure remains in place throughout the work week, bringing sunshine and quiet conditions back into the forecast.
