WATCH: Crash causes gravel truck to overturn in Wesley Chapel

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (WFLA) — Part of SR-56 was closed in Wesley Chapel after a semi truck hauling gravel overturned east of Interstate-75 on Monday.

All eastbound lanes have reopened at Cypress Ridge Blvd.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a SUV hit the semi while changing lanes. The truck overturned after the collision and spilled 7,900 pounds of gravel into the intersection.

The driver of the SUV, a 78-year-old woman from Wesley Chapel, and the truck driver, a 59-year-old man from Port Richey, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The state’s Rapid Incident Scene Clearance program was activated and crews are working to remove the gravel.
