HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) is providing an update on what she is working on in Washington today at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s Davidson Center for Space Exploration.

Britt appeared in Florence on Monday. She spoke on budget, the Tiktok ban and local funds during her visit to the Shoals.

The Senator said that one of her biggest priorities — and challenges — in her first year has been building relationships. Britt added that she is looking for bipartisan solutions and wants to get things done, which includes passing a budget.

Recently, the House voted to ban the video-making app TikTok, moving it to the Senate floor.

She said the conversations about TikTok will continue in the Senate this week.

“The CCP knows that if it controls the minds of our next generation, then it conquers America. And it is time that we wake up.”

Britt said she will support a ban on the app, especially after seeing the ‘firsthand impacts of social media.’

“From 2011 to 2019, the depression rates in our teens more than doubled. It coincides with the rise and use of social media,” the Senator said. “I want you to hear the uncomfortable truth of what is happening to our youth… Nine percent of our teenagers in high school actually attempted death by suicide.”

She has co-sponsored the Kids Online Safety Act, called KOSA. Britt also told those in attendance that she, along with senators Brian Schatz (D-HI), Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Tom Cotton (R-AR), have

“We came together not as Democrats or Republicans. We came together as four concerned parents, who say, ‘If we don’t put some guardrails up, I’m not sure where our children go from here’.”
