Sen. Tom Cotton on Wednesday called pro-Palestinian protesters on college campuses “lunatics” comparable to the “ayatollahs in Iran.”

“These 'Little Gazas' are disgusting cesspools of antisemitic hate full of pro-Hamas sympathizers, fanatics, and freaks,” the Arkansas Republican said at a Senate GOP news conference.

Cotton pointed to comments that he said students and professors made at various universities relating to Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel on October 7th, arguing that protesters have expressed support for Hamas and unfairly condemned Israel.

“The terrorist sympathizers in these ‘Little Gazas’ aren't peacefully protesting Israel's conduct of the war. They're violently and illegally demanding death for Israel just like their ideological twins, the ayatollahs in Iran,” Cotton said.

House Republicans on Tuesday announced an investigation into the federal funding for universities where students have protested the war in Gaza. The move broadens GOP efforts to place a heavy scrutiny on how presidents at colleges nationwide deal with reports of antisemitism on campuses.
